The Brand Ive Chosen

Ive chosen the brand Dior.

When I think of Dior I think of clean, immaculate skin, statement eyes and a desirable glow. A healthy, natural look that showcases elegance. This is something I love, especially the base. I love to see plumped, healthy glowing skin and love to create it on others.

The first foundation I ever owned was Dior and at the age of 14 didnt appreciate the beauty of not only the packaging but the formula and the excellence of the product. However looking back it was one of the most beautiful products I have owned. The Diorskin Nude Loose Powder not only was packaged luxuriously but had a cooling sensation to the skin on application. This refreshed the skin and gave a luminous look to avoid an over powdery appearance. It was light enough to be suitable to my young skin but enough to cover any blemish I thought I had.
The luxury of that foundation is something I still think about years on and so this is why I have chosen to use Dior as my brand.

Christian Dior was born in a seaside town in Normandy, France and moved to Paris at age 5. Christian Dior was always artistically inclined much to his parents dismay, and began selling his sketches on the street during his school years. He opened up a small art gallery after he left school with his fathers money and sold paintings for Pablo Picasso among other names. Unfortunatley due to the Great Depression, the death of his mother and brother and his fathers business going bankrupt, Dior was forced to close his gallery. He went to work for fashion designer Robert Piguet until he was called upon by the army in 1940. At the end of his service in 1942, he and Pierre Balmain began working for Lucien Long as his primary designers.

On February 12 1947, He debuted his first collection. The lines were quickly named the "New Look" a phrase coined by Carmel Snow, US Harpers Bazaar editor. The iconic look consisted of a calf length full skirt, cinched in at the waist, with a fuller bust. His elegant designs conflicted with the grim post war reality of Europe.

Stars such as Rita Heyworth, Ava Gardner Margot Fonteyn helped to rise the profile of the small fashion house, landing Dior a private screening of his new collection to the Royal Family.

In 1948 Dior opened a Ready-to-Wear house on the corner of 5th Avenue in New York and in that same year launched his Parfum range. The first fragrance to launch was Miss Dior.  Named after his younger sister who was captured and imprisoned at a concentration camp after joining the French Resistance.

Over 60 years after its creation, the New Look revolution is still clear in its designs.
