Why We Percieve Dewy Skin to be Healthy & Youthful

Everyone strives for that perfect glow. It makes the skin look plump, healthy and youthful. But why is it we perceive glowy skin to be so healthy? All over the internet youll see articles such as "How to banish tired looking skin and maintain a dewy complexion (even when you're exhausted)". So society clearly connotes dewy skin to be well rested.

I looked up the effects on the skin after a bad nights sleep and heres what I found;

  • When you get 8+ hours of sleep your brain gets rid of 60% more toxins, overall this helps your body feel more refreshed and gives your skin that I-woke-up-like-this glow.
  • A lack of sleep affects the moisture levels in your skin, decreasing them and lowering the skins PH level. When this PH level drops it creates an imbalance which inhibits the skins ability to produce moisture and so in turn, looks drier.
  • A lower skin PH also creates redness and unwanted breakouts.

So dry sallow skin has a direct correlation to a lack of sleep and there for we perceive it as exhausted and aged.
Keeping a light sheer coverage on the skin which reflects the light well will keep my images modern and youthful.
